Our Church History

Normal Presbyterian Church was established in 1890 with membership of around 250. The original Church structure was to the east of our parking lot where for the past two years, we have had a community garden. In 1942, we purchased the property where the existing buildings are and the Gartrell family deeded the adjoining property.

The new sanctuary was completed in the early summer of 1950.

As the Sunday School classes and social activities grew it became apparent that more space was needed. In the fall of 1957 the educational building was completed. The people and the ministers of the church give thanks to our God for the marvelous and almost unbelievable

Way in which we were guided to meet our community needs. It can be said of the good people of Normal Presbyterian Church; “They had a mind to work”

The Presbyterian Church (USA) and its mission

God created the heavens and the earth and made human beings in his own image, charging them to care for all that lives… God was incarnate in Jesus Christ… God’s redeeming and reconciling activity in the world continues through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit…

The new reality in Jesus Christ is the new humanity, a new creation, a new beginning for human life in the world:

    1. Sin is forgiven
    2. Reconciliation is accomplished.
    3. The dividing walls of hostility are torn down.

A faithful member accepts Christ’s call to be involved responsively in the ministry of the church.
